(book) Man Crush Monday Quote

Today's Man Crush Monday for the bookies is . . .

Aiden  St. Delphi
from The Covenant Series by Jennifer Armentrout:

“My heart stopped when that damn door closed on me. I could hear you two fighting. I could hear him taunting you, and I could hear him breaking your bones. And there wasn’t a damn thing I could do about it.” He placed his hands on the sides of my legs. Tension rippled through the muscles in his arms. “You never should’ve faced something like that alone.” “But you would’ve died.” “And because I love you, I am willing to die to save you from that. Don’t you dare take that decision away from me again.”

Armentrout, Jennifer L. (2013-10-31). Sentinel (Covenant) (pp. 10-11). Spencer Hill Press. Kindle Edition.

No lie. I've read this entire series at least 6 times through... yep, it's that good.

Opposition ~ Jennifer L. Armentrout Review

Opposition
by: Jennifer L. Armentrout

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I . . . have been with this series from the start.

This review is my good bye to it.

Daemon. . . you've never let me down.

Katy… girl I had my moments with you! Your pig headedness got us in some rough and hurtful situations, but then again without it we wouldn't have had the journey we went on through the 5 books.

This book definitely surpassed my expectation.

I was thoroughly and completely in my feelings through out every page turn.

This entire series was sooooo worth it.

Thats really all that I can say without spoiling the entire book, which I happily will lol i need to talk to someone about the major feels. But I won't. Instead I'll let you all see exactly what I mean first hand.

Thank you so much for the gift of the Lux Series JLA!

Sentinel ~ Jennifer L. Armentrout Review

Sentinel
by: Jennifer L. Armentrout

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I always find myself completely in my feelings when I finish this book and therefore this series.

As a reader I've gone through this long exciting and emotional journey with these characters and every thing goes down so fast. I don't know about others but for the majority of this book i was in the "no this can't be right and that can't be right" state and in the end it was but it was for the better.

The Covenant series shows lessons of immaturity to maturity, knowing vs. understanding , want vs need , love vs in love.

This series never gets old.

It kicks daimons butt every single time.

So to sum it up with a sentence and a gif:

Sentinel had me all in my emotions but its such a great book!

Apollyon ~ Jennifer L. Armentrout Review

Apollyon
by: Jennifer L. Armentrout

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The way the plot thickens and progresses in Apollyon is beautiful.

Our main character can't really catch a break.

i'm always left with a sense of anxiety for her at the end of this book.

Many things happen in this book that mess with your emotions and deepens your investment in the be all end all ending.

The way this book ends…. I am angry. For Alex.

What I absolutely love about this book is the way the reader experiences deeper and/or different sides of the main three characters.

Elixir ~ Jennifer L. Amrentrout Review

Elixir
by: Jennifer L. Armentrout

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Holy
Mother
of
Pearls.

Team Aiden! Legitimately for the rest of the series.

I think I've fallen in love with him a bit myself.

Aiden . . . sheesh I can hardly review it.

It's was great to be inside his head and see his thought process and what he is truly feeling!

This book FTW!

Wish there was more of his POV.

Elixir Teaser

“Did I ever tell you about the first time I saw you?”

She shivered. “No.”

Closing my eyes, I felt her snuggle closer. My hand curled into the thick material of her sweater. I rested my chin on her head. “I was sixteen and you were probably fourteen.”

“I can’t remember fourteen.”

“That’s okay. I remember for both of us.” I counted to ten before I continued, making sure my voice didn’t give. “It was toward the end of the day and I was heading into the training rooms with a friend.

Classes were still going on, and I was walking by the door—it was open—and I heard laughter. Something you don’t usually hear during training. I had to stop and see what was going on.”
It was the first time I’d seen her. No one could miss her. She was the smallest in the room, shorter and skinnier than all of her opponents, but that wasn’t why she stuck out. There’d been this impish grin on her face, an energy that was infectious as she’d bounced around the mats, circling a tall, blond-haired boy. The Instructor had been irritated, no doubt by her and the attention she was drawing from a pure and an entire class riveted on her. But once I’d seen her, I couldn’t look away. It was like being hit by lightning.

“You were training with Cal—with a friend—going through takedown moves. He kept trying to get the upper hand, but you kept laying him out, laughing the entire time. Both of you were laughing. That’s why I looked.”

“Did you know me then?” she asked sleepily.

“No.” I held her closer, as if I could somehow pull her inside me and keep her safe. “But I knew, in that moment, you were amazing.”

What I'm Reading

Ok!

I got a confession to make.

This weekend I binged read the book after Deity is Elixir.

Aiden St. Delphi will do anything to save Alex.
Even if it means doing the one thing he will never forgive himself for.
Even if it means making war against the gods.

Well I read that Saturday. And finished it. Soooo what I'm actually reading right now is:

Fate isn’t something to mess with… and now, neither is Alex.

Alex has always feared two things: losing herself in the Awakening and being placed on the Elixir. But love has always been stronger than Fate, and Aiden St. Delphi is willing to make war on the gods—and Alex herself—to bring her back.

The gods have killed thousands and could destroy entire cities in their quest to stop Seth from taking Alex’s power and becoming the all-powerful God Killer. But breaking Alex’s connection to Seth isn’t the only problem. There are a few pesky little loopholes in the whole “an Apollyon can’t be killed” theory, and the only person who might know how to stop the destruction has been dead for centuries.

Finding their way past the barriers that guard the Underworld, searching for one soul among countless millions, and then somehow returning will be hard enough. Alex might be able to keep Seth from becoming the God Killer… or she might become the God Killer herself.

It's going down!!

Need I say more?

Happy Reading!

Deity ~ Jennifer L. Armentrout Review

Deity
by: Jennifer L. Armentrout

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I always struggle with Deity.

I know that in the grand scheme of things the way things go down in the book is necessary but for the most part it aggravates me.

Still a great book with a great couple of plot twists.

Alex: Holy Daimon Babies!!! When I say she annoyed me in this book, I mean it! It was like, haven't you learned by now girl??? Yeesh! Open your eyes.

Aiden: Team Aiden all the freaking way. Marry me sir. Marry me.

Seth: . . . well we are no longer having trouble debating team Seth's placement. . . he's back to being a douche. . . a major douche.

All in all the insight and set up in this book was amazing, and I'd reread it billions of time ( if i haven't already) because this is the book where true colors start to show and the plot seriously twist and turns and deepens that I can't help but keep turning the pages!

Deity Teaser

“Something… something is different about you.”

A desire to flee the room filled me, but I faced him instead. I glanced down at my palms. The marks were still there. Why did I keep checking on them like they’d go away or something? “So much has happened, Aiden. I’m not the same person.”

“You were the same person the day you found out about your father,” he said, eyes turning the color of a thundercloud.

Anger began low in my stomach, humming through my veins. “That has nothing to do with this.” Aiden pushed off the wall, hands coming out of his pockets. “What is this?”

“Everything!” My fingers dug into my palms. “What’s the point in all of this? Let’sjust think hypothetically here for a second, okay? Say Telly or whoever doesn’t manage to send me into servitude or kill me and the furies don’t end up tearing me apart, I’m still going to turn eighteen. I’m still going to Awaken. So what’s the point? Maybe I should leave.” I stalked to where I’d dropped my bag. “Maybe Lucian will let me go to Ireland or something. I’d like to visit there before I be—”

Aiden grabbed my upper arm, turning me so that I faced him.

“You said you had to stay at the Covenant so you could graduate, because you needed to be a Sentinel more than anyone else in the room.” His voice dropped low as his eyes searched mine intently. “You were passionate about this. Has that changed?” I yanked on my arm, but he held on.

“Maybe.”

The tips of Aiden’s cheekbones flushed. “So you’re giving up?”

“I don’t think it’s giving up. Call it… accepting reality.” I smiled, but it felt icky.

“That is such bull, Alex.”

What I'm Reading

"History is on repeat, and things didn't go so well the last time. "

Alexandria isn't sure she's going to make it to her eighteenth birthday--to her Awakening. A long-forgotten, fanatical order is out to kill her, and if the Council ever discovers what she did in the Catskills, she's a goner... and so is Aiden.

If that's not freaky enough, whenever Alex and Seth spend time "training"--which really is just Seth's code word for some up-close and personal one-on-one time--she ends up with another mark of the Apollyon, which brings her one step closer to Awakening ahead of schedule. Awesome.

But as her birthday draws near, her entire world shatters with a startling revelation and she's caught between love and Fate. One will do anything to protect her. One has been lying to her since the beginning. Once the gods have revealed themselves, unleashing their wrath, lives will be irrevocably changed... and destroyed.

Those left standing will discover if love is truly greater than Fate

Pure ~ Jennifer L. Armentrout Review

Pure
by: Jennifer L. Armentrout

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

As I stated before… This book seriously gives me heart palpitations…. but then again so do the following books. But still.

It's a great book and it ultimately sets up ( and when rereading clears up) the many twists and turns soon to come in the storyline.

In this book:

Alex - At times I wanted to throttle her, other times I just wanted to give her a hug, and there were a few times that I was ready to fight for her.

Aiden -  I love me some Aiden St. Delphi but I was seriously tempted to take a knee to him a few times ( not that the hit would make it) for some of his words and actions.

Seth - Oh you know, he's still the same old Seth. Still not sure if he's team good guy or bad guy. The difference in this book is I always find myself starting to not care what team he's on because he's clearly team Alex/himself. When he's with her there's this whole other side that i quickly find myself crushing on. Every. Single. Time.

Ok glad that the heart wrenching and palpitation giving book is over. Now the plot deepens.

Pure Quotes

"Pure-bloods were off-limits to us halfs, which meant what had gone down between us was tantamount to feeling up the Pope or offering Gandhi a roast beef sandwich."

"Seth remained still for a minute, maybe two. Then he moved his arm down, circling my waist, pulling me closer. My body fit against his, my hand resting on his chest. Under my palm, his heart hammered as wildly as mine."

"He clapped his hands together, letting out a rather high-pitched squeal before grabbing my hand. “Oh, we are going to have so much fun! Aren’t we? Fun, Alex— we will have fun.” "

Honestly I didn't highlight much because I got sucked in, as usual, I couldn't even stop.

What I'm Reading

There is need. And then there is Fate. Being destined to become some kind of supernatural electrical outlet isn't exactly awesome--especially when Alexandria's other half is everywhere she goes. Seth's in her training room, outside her classes, and keeps showing up in her bedroom--so not cool. Their connection does have some benefits, like staving off her nightmares of the tragic showdown with her mother, but it has no effect on what Alex feels for the forbidden, pure-blooded Aiden. Or what he will do--and sacrifice--for her. When daimons infiltrate the Covenants and attack students, the gods send furies--lesser gods determined to eradicate any threat to the Covenants and to the gods, and that includes the Apollyon--and Alex. And if that and hordes of aether-sucking monsters didn't blow bad enough, a mysterious threat seems willing to do anything to neutralize Seth, even if that means forcing Alex into servitude--or killing her. When the gods are involved, some decisions can never, ever be undone.

This book gives me heart palpations….. but still:

Half-Blood ~ Jennifer L. Armentrout Review

Half-Blood
by: Jennifer L. Armentrout

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Definitely 5 out of 5 stars!

I have reread this book, uhhh I lost count of how many times, time and time again and it still hasn't got old.

I always find something that sticks out more every single time.

Alex- Hot head who's passionate

Aiden - *wipes drool* I can't even describe him just . . . read the book and you'll understand

Seth - the sexy mofo who you're not sure if he's team protagonist or antagonist

There's so many more characters that were great to read but those mentioned above are always the main three.

In this book Alex has a lot of lessons to learn, and boy does she start to learn them. She honestly never catches a break, but you see it building and molding her character at the very least. Certain situations she is put in or must face really connects you with her and takes you from being annoyed with her to Team Alex.

This book holds action, romance, mystery, horror, tragedy, and comedy. (i love books like this)

So there's honestly something for everybody.

I definitely recommend it, any time, any place, read it!

What I'm Reading

The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi pure bloods have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals--well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures. Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden. Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem--staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck

Daimon ~ Jennifer L. Armentrout Review

Daimon
by: Jennifer L. Armentrout

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The way this book sets up the next one is beautiful, you rarely see it done this way.

I love how we Daimon gives the back story to where Alex is emotionally, mentally, and physically when we first meet her in Half-blood.

I also loved the glimpse of her life readers see pre-tragedy.

(And because it deals with greek mythology I don't see me saying that there is a tragedy as a spoiler, i'm just saying.)

Our main character is Alex and she's strong. Strong willed, strong tempered, head strong, but not least emotionally and physically strong.

In this book something so precious is ripped away from her and her strength is tested time and time again. She is hunted. She's strong, she survives.

And now we move on to Half-Blood.

Daimon quotes

Just some quotes from Daimon by Jennifer L. Armentrout for you:

“She’s nothing more than a pathetic, little half-blood,” the ancient woman had continued. “I say send her to the Masters. I’m in need of a little girl to clean my toilets.”
Then she had twisted her fingers cruelly.
And I had kicked her shin." (kinlde: Location 47)

"Even now, I wanted to spin-kick myself in my face for that one. I was like a walking romance novel character, thinking love conquers everything and all that crap. Sure. Love in my world usually ended up with someone hearing “I smite thee!” as she was cursed to be some lame flower for the rest of her life." (kindle: Location 78)

"Pures were so off limits to halfs like me." (kindle: Location 83)

"Here I was, three years later, and chipping paint reminded me of his eyes. That was so lame it was embarrassing." (kindle: Location 440)

What I'm Reading

"Love in my world usually ended up with someone hearing 'I smite thee!' as she was cursed to be some lame flower for the rest of her life."For three years, Alexandria has lived among mortals--pretending to be like them and trying to forget the duty she'd been trained to fulfill as a child of a mortal and a demigod. At seventeen, she's pretty much accepted that she's a freak by mortal standards... and that she'll never be prepared for that duty.According to her mother, that's a good thing. But as every descendant of the gods knows, Fate has a way of rearing her ugly head. A horrifying attack forces Alex to flee Miami and try to find her way back to the very place her mother had warned her she should never return-the Covenant. Every step that brings her closer to safety is one more step toward death... because she's being hunted by the very creatures she'd once trained to kill. The daimons have found her.

Guys…

I really am so freaking excited about rereading this series. I get to fall in love with the characters all over again, laugh, cry, cuss and then apologize, and so much more. But I'm super stoked that this time I'm sharing it with you all!
